Obituary Information

Anchorage Daily News publishes a print newspaper on Wednesdays and Sundays, as well as a daily digital e-edition Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. An obituary or notice published in the print newspaper on Wednesday will be published in the e-edition on Wednesday and Thursday; an obituary or notice published in the print newspaper on Sunday will be published in the e-edition on Sunday and Monday.

The best way to submit an obituary is through our online submission form, or by email to obituary@adn.com. Handwritten obituaries and notices are not accepted. Submissions may not be made verbally over the phone. Please be aware the submission form requires an account to submit; this account is separate from a subscription.

If a funeral home is involved, we recommend the obituary or notice be submitted via the funeral home. Verification of death is required for any submission, by way of contact information of a funeral home, crematorium or coroner’s office, or with an emailed copy of a death certificate.

Credit/debit card payments incur a 3.99% credit card fee. Bank account routing is available via the online submission form. ACH payment option available. Contact 907-257-4000 with questions.

All submissions may be edited by Anchorage Daily News for spelling, punctuation, grammar, formatting and clarity. Deadlines are subject to change for holiday closures.

Anchorage Daily News offers the following flat-rate obituary packages:

Wednesday Print Package:
Eighty* lines for a flat rate of $250**, with $12 per each additional line and $20 to include a black and white photo as well as $5 to include an icon, published in the print newspaper on Wednesday and the e-edition on Wednesday and Thursday, as well as online at adn.com, on a Lasting Memories memorial webpage and mention in a quarterly Tributes publication. Deadline for the Wednesday package is 1 p.m. the Monday prior.

Sunday Print Package:

Sunday+Wednesday Print Package:
The same breakdown as above, full price for the first print date and approximately ½ price for the second**. Obituaries may be submitted for publication any day of the week, excluding Saturdays; they will be published in the print newspaper only on Sunday and Wednesday, and will be published in the e-edition Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. Deadline to submit is 1 p.m. two business days prior to the requested first publication date.

* Eighty lines equates to approximately 300 words; a line can range from approximately 3-6 words. Photos that are submitted in color will publish in b & w in print and in color online.

**Does not include a 3.99% credit card processing fee; Bank account routing is available via the online submission form. ACH option available. Please note: Any additions to submitted obituaries that increase the overall price and require additional credit card payment may be subject to additional credit card processing fees.

Notice General Information:
Anchorage Daily News publishes notices for free. A service notice may consist of: deceased’s name, date and location of death and date, time and location of any visitations and/or services. Submissions with additional information are considered obituaries and will be rejected.

Verification of death is required to publish a notice, by way of contact information of a funeral home, crematorium or coroner’s office, or with an emailed copy of a death certificate. The location of services, unless a funeral home, does not meet the requirement.

Wednesday Notice:
Notice will be published in the print newspaper on Wednesday and the e-edition on Wednesday and Thursday, as well as online at adn.com and mention in a quarterly Tributes publication. Deadline for the Wednesday package is 1 p.m. the Monday prior.

Sunday Notice:
Notice will be published in the print newspaper on Sunday and the e-edition on Sunday and Monday, as well as online at adn.com and mention in a quarterly Tributes publication. Deadline for the Sunday package is 1 p.m. the Thursday prior. .

Sunday+Wednesday Notice:
