Linda Hall passed away in Tucson, Ariz., on Sept. 1, 2026. Linda was born on Jan. 8, 1943, in Flint, Mich. She graduated from Grand Blanc High, as valedictorian, where she met her husband, Ron Hall. Upon graduation she attended Michigan State University and eventually the University of Michigan where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree.
Linda's early career was spent at the high school where she graduated, Grand Blanc High, where she taught English for many years. She eventually joined her husband at the Hall Insurance Agency beginning her insurance career. While working in Michigan, Linda earned the Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter and Certified Insurance Counselor designations, signifying her commitment to the industry.
In 1986, Linda was offered a position as a commercial broker in Anchorage, Alaska. While a surprise to many family members and friends, she and Ron, along with their son Eric, moved to Alaska, where her career flourished. In Alaska, Linda became involved in the Alaska Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers Association, serving as president. From 1997 until 2003, she represented Alaska on the Board of Directors of the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America.
In 2003, Linda was appointed as the Director of the Division of Insurance by Governor Frank Murkowski, a position she held until her retirement in 2012. During her tenure as director, Linda became active in the National Association of Insurance Commissioners. She chaired the National Insurance Producer Registry board for several years.
When retiring as director in 2012, she was presented with a Legislative Citation by the Alaska State Legislature – a testimonial to the respect she had earned from the members of the legislature for her tireless work in regulating the insurance industry. A part of the citation read: "Linda is much more than an eye-numbing list of credentials and titles; she's a genuine, approachable, practical administrator, which could explain her career longevity of nine years, unlike most division directors who flow in and out on the waves of each new head of state. Linda Hall was hands-on; she helped write the bills, the fiscal notes and the sectionals, escorting her bills from start to finish, babysitting them into the wee hours of the night on the House and Senate Floors. A team player and a statesperson who cared about good legislation and good policy for Alaska, she was diplomatic and thoughtful. Fair. Knowledgeable in her field. Considerate and respectful. Always quick on her feet with a witty response. If legislation were measured by volume, Linda's insurance bills would rank among some of the most significant in recent years. She liked to say, 'This is a simple bill, Mr. Chairman …' and only she could pull that off as she opened up her 40-plus-page bill binder."
Linda and Ron were married for over 60 years, living in Michigan, Alaska and eventually retiring in Arizona. They were blessed with many adventures, including visiting family in Michigan and Florida, traveling in Europe and many Caribbean cruises. Linda was especially proud of catching a large king salmon while fishing with Ron on the Kenai River.
While Linda enjoyed her career, the love of her life was her family – particularly her son Eric and daughter-in-law, and two grandchildren. It would be hard to have a conversation with Linda where she did not have a story to share of her cherished grandchildren. She relished holidays and vacations with Eric and his family, and was very happy that retirement allowed her to be a part of their daily life as the kids grew up in Tucson.
Linda leaves behind her husband, Ron Hall; son, Eric Hall (Jessica); and two grandchildren, Brendan (Avery) and Natalie (Ben). She is survived by four sisters, Jan Brinch, Lori Wing-Heier, Jean Luedtke and LeAnn Eustice; as well as one bother, Mark Elliott.
Linda's wish was to be cremated, her ashes will be spread at a location known only to the family at a later date after a private service was held in Tucson.
