Karen Jean Jacobsen, 78, passed away in Anchorage, Alaska, on Aug. 14, 2026, after a courageous nine-year battle with anaplastic multiple myeloma.

Born in 1948 in Great Falls, Mont., to Charles and Lily Jacobsen, Karen is survived by her mother, Lily Secora; sister, Charlene (George); brother, Michael (Molly); nieces, Jamie Holmes and Nicole Jacobsen (Judy); nephews, Jason Holmes and Michael Jacobsen (Lindsey); and great-nephews, Cole G., Travis Holmes, Blake Jacobsen and Logan Jacobsen.

Karen was predeceased by her father, Charles; and sister, Carol Jacobsen.

A BP Teacher of the Year with the Anchorage School District, Karen - Miss J as her students addressed her - was respected and admired for her creativity and devotion to her profession, and retired after a lifetime of teaching. Miss J loved her students, and so many of them today recall her as their favorite teacher. Following her retirement she enjoyed golfing with the Anchorage Women's Golf Association and was a master gardener; her summer flowers were a treat for neighbors to admire. She will be greatly missed by her family, students and friends who loved her. At Karen's request, no services are planned.
