Paul Maguire

Paul Anthony Maguire Jr., Ph.D., of Palmer, Alaska, formerly of Burlington, Mass., passed away peacefully on July 22, 2026, at the age of 72. Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, Paul was the son of the late Paul A. Maguire Sr. and Kathryn "Kitty" Maguire.

A lifelong educator and advocate, Paul graduated from Burlington High School, Bridgewater State University, and Oregon State University, where he earned his Ph.D. in adapted physical education in 1986. He taught at several universities and co-founded two pioneering programs for children with disabilities: the Children's Physical Developmental Clinic at Bridgewater State University and the Special Physical and Motor Clinic at Oregon State University. Paul dedicated his professional life to inclusion and equality in education.

Paul is survived by his siblings: Kevin Maguire, Theresa "Terri" Maguire, Maureen LaMarca Maguire and Andrew Pabian, Colleen Conceison and her husband Bob, Patrick Maguire and Angela Berthiaume, Michael Maguire and his wife Katie, Shawn Maguire and his wife Glenda, and Stephen Maguire and his wife Jessica. He is survived by 18 nieces and nephews and many cousins. He is also survived by his longtime friend, Steven Wright; godson, Sam Ouellette; and Sam's father, Larry Ouellette.

Paul found great joy in the outdoors, adventure, his beloved Newfoundland dogs and the life he built in Alaska. He will be remembered for his humor, generosity, fierce advocacy for human equality and enduring impact on his family, friends, students and colleagues.
