Ruth C. L'Hommedieu passed away on June 26, 2026, in Juneau, Alaska.

Ruth was born in Cortland, N.Y., and grew up on the family dairy farm in Cincinnatus, N.Y. During her life she lived in many places but always felt that her two true homes were New York and Alaska!

Ruth's favorite flower was the Alaska fireweed as it symbolizes resilience, personal growth, renewal, rebirth and hope. She liked to think she demonstrated many of these traits in her life.

Ruth's life encompassed many unique and formative activities that helped her immensely when she moved back to Alaska in 1982. Advocating for others became her passion that she was well known for. She gave hope to those who did not have a voice or were unsure how to use their voice. Ruth's over 35 years of passionately volunteering and advocating to improve the quality of life for the people of Alaska is a legacy that has lasted well beyond her. Ruth truly cared for her fellow Alaskans, especially those who needed assistance.

Ruth's favorite quote was "What I do today is important because I am exchanging a day of my life for it." For those that knew and loved Ruth, may you always think of her when you see the beautiful pink-purple hues of a fireweed and be encouraged to live, love, grow, serve others and thrive.
