A Witness to the Resurrection and a Celebration of Life for the Rev. Dr. Israel J. D. Nelson will be held on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at 7 p.m.

June 9 has been a significant day for Israel as it is Saint Columba Day. Columba was the founder of Iona located in the Inner Hebrides of Scotland. Israel was a full member of the Iona Community.

The service will be held at the United Protestant Presbyterian Church, 713 South Denali Street in Palmer, Alaska. It will be streamed on Facebook Live via the United Protestant Presbyterian Church, Palmer, AK Facebook page. Before the service will be a potluck at 6 p.m., as Israel was a fan of potlucks and rarely missed any opportunity to attend one.

Israel was born on Aug. 16, 1944, and died on March 27, 2026, and for the past quarter century has lived in Alaska.
