Jun 14, 2020

Sgt. U.S. Air Force - Desert Storm - Anchorage, Alaska, resident John Maxwell Northcutt, 57, passed away at the Swedish Hospital in Seattle, Wash. A memorial service will be held at Janssen's Memorial Chapel, 737 E Street, on July 10, 2020, from 11:30 a.m - 1 p.m. John will be laid to rest at Fort Richardson National Cemetery with honors at 2:30 p.m.

Mr. Northcutt was born on March 20, 1963, at Andrews AFB, Md. He served honorably in the U.S. Air Force for 8 years. John moved to Alaska with his family in March 1966, driving up the Alcan Highway. John lived in Chistochina until 1980. He moved to Anchorage with his mom and sister Sheila, graduating from Bartlett High School in 1981. John went on to be a commercial fisherman, and other odd jobs, before becoming a firefighter/EMT. John became a firefighter/EMT in 1986, first serving at Eielson AFB, Fairbanks, and then in 1992, John became a civilian firefighter on Ft. Richardson, later becoming JBER. John truly loved being a firefighter/EMT, and was proud to be a part of the firefighting brotherhood. John lived life to the fullest, doing the Tok to Dawson run on snowmachines, where he became known as "Crash"; this was John's passion: snowmachining. John loved "bbq'ing," with family and friends over, enjoyed playing hockey, his drums and the great outdoors of Alaska, hunting and spending time with family and friends at the cabin. His favorite time of year was Christmas. He was proud of his two sons and loved them. He loved his wife "with all his heart," as he would say. John thought Alaska was God's country.

Mr. Northcutt is survived by his wife, Deneen Tuck of Anchorage; son, Steven Northcutt of Midland, Texas; son, Brian Northcutt of Eagle River, Alaska; and brother, Mike Northcutt of Anchorage. John had many other family members, half siblings, cousins, nieces and nephews in Georgia and Alaska. John was preceded in death by his mother; father; sisters; and grandparents.
