Robert Donald Jackson, 90, passed away peacefully on Dec. 1, 2025, at his home in Anchorage, Alaska. Born in Danville, Ill., on Nov. 16, 1935, Robert lived a life defined by service, duty and a profound love for his family.
Robert served his country for 20 years in the United States Air Force, working meticulously as an accountant. Following his military service, he continued his professional career as a tax auditor for the State of Alaska, from which he eventually retired.
In the early 1970s, Robert and his beloved wife, Karrold D. Jackson, made the bold decision to move their family to Anchorage. They saw the north not just as a destination, but as a land of promise—a safe place to raise their four children with ample opportunities for advancement. For much of his life, Robert's focus was singular: earning a living to ensure his family was comfortable and secure.
In his younger years, Robert found joy in the outdoors, spending his free time fishing, camping and cruising. Above all hobbies, however, his greatest pleasure was making Karrold happy.
Later in life, a prostate cancer scare served as a turning point for Robert. Realizing the fragility and brevity of life, he underwent a dramatic transformation. He recentered his world entirely around his children and grandchildren, trading the stoicism of his working years for the warmth of family connection.
One of his absolute favorite activities became simply listening to his family laugh. To his both his children and his grandchildren, he was an amazing figure, affectionately known as "PopPop," "GDiddy" and "Grandman." His presence was a source of stability and joy, and his legacy lives on in the family he loved so much.
Robert is survived by his three daughters: Shaaron, Kelly and Erin. He also leaves behind four grandchildren, Shavon, Sayuri, Craig and James, as well as great-grandchildren and a large adopted family who loved him dearly. Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Karrold; and son, Jeff.
