June 11, 2020

Mike Gorder Sr., 76, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2020, at Providence Hospital in Anchorage, Alaska, surrounded by his daughters, Crissy and Jenny. Born on April 22, 1944, in Park River, N.D., to Melvin and Gertrude Gorder, he joined the U.S. Army in 1962, and was stationed in Alaska. After being discharged in 1968, the family moved to California where he and his brother, Ed, went into the beekeeping business. The family returned to Alaska in 1972, and started a contracting and excavating business with his brother Duane. Mike established his own company 25 years ago, Legend Contracting, where he worked up until his death. Whether on a bobcat, driving truck, playing guitar and singing at his shop, or doing business over coffee, his work family and clients became the best of friends. His friends were very important to him and the family wishes to express their sincerest appreciation for the outpouring of compassion during this difficult time. Mike, "The Legend," loved to talk and had strong opinions regarding many subjects. His big sense of humor, positive attitude and a smile that lit up his eyes were welcomed everywhere. He was always telling folks he was "perfect" with his perfect hair. He will forever live in the hearts of those who loved him. Mike was deeply loved by his family who will treasure all of the great memories they have of a wonderful dad. He is survived by his wife, Doris; daughters, Crissy (Cliff), Stefanie (Troy), Jennifer (Erik); son, Michael Jr. (Sarah); and grandchildren, Tristen, Courtney and Emily; sister, Dorothy; brothers, Larry and Ed; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Gertrude; brothers, Jim, Robert, Duane; sisters, Paula, Judy, Ann; and his son-in-law, David. Mike loved his view of the Chugach Mountains which he could see from the front windows of his home. He was interred at Angelus Memorial Park in a private family service on June 17, 2020, where there is a beautiful view of those same mountains he looked at every morning. A celebration of life will be held later for family and friends. The family has suggested memorial contributions be made in Mike's name to the American Legion Post 28, 7001 Brayton Drive, Anchorage, AK 99507.
