Jul 10, 2025

Dr. Carol "Jane" Wiggins, 77, passed away peacefully at her home in Albuquerque, N.M. on July 10, 2025, surrounded by family. In honoring her wishes, no formal funeral will be held. Loved ones are invited to celebrate her life in their own, meaningful way.

Born in Albuquerque on Nov. 28, 1947, to James and Verna Wiggins, Jane graduated from Highland High School in 1965. She earned her BS in Nursing from the University of New Mexico in 1970, then pursued a Master's and Midwifery certification from the University of Utah in 1974. Jane worked as a Midwife in both Utah and New Mexico before returning to UNM to earn her Doctorate in Medicine in 1983. She completed her OB/GYN residency at Tulane University and Charity Hospital in 1987.

Jane practiced medicine in Albuquerque and later in Anchorage, Alaska, where she spent over two decades at Providence Alaska Medical Center. She retired in 2016 and was honored as a member of its honorary medical staff.

Her proudest role was as mother to the twins she adopted in 1991 and raised in Alaska, enjoying the outdoors. Jane will be remembered as a loving mother, a dedicated and caring physician, and an adventurous soul. Her legacy lives on in her children and grandchildren, to whom she passed down her values of compassion, resilience, and wonder.

She is survived by her children, Aaron (Kayla) of Anchorage and Adrienne (James) of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Piper Jane, Knox, Kane, and Karter Ella; siblings, Bruce (Lorna), James Jr. (Nancy), Robert (Kimberley); sister-in-law, Jill; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Carl.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Doctors Without Borders. Memories may be shared on her virtual obituary at French Funerals and Cremations.
