James "Jim" Savage Hughes Jr., age 74, passed away peacefully on Oct. 31, 2024. Born on Oct. 21, 1950, in Port Angeles, Wash., he was the beloved son of the late Gloria Belle and James Savage Hughes Sr.
Jim found his greatest joy in the beauty of the outdoors. A skilled hunter and passionate fisherman, he cherished his yearly adventures—moose camp, deep-sea fishing, clamming and diving for Dungeness crabs. Nature was his sanctuary, and he found happiness sharing it with family and friends.
Jim was also a master carpenter, known for his precision and artistry. His craftsmanship was admired by all who knew him, as were his generosity and humor.
He graduated from North Kitsap Senior High in 1968 and later studied at Spokane Falls Community College. Jim spent his working years as a professional garage doorman, specializing in Mega Doors, and as a highly skilled carpenter.
Jim is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Heather Hughes-Appold; son, Peter Hughes and wife Kara; and grandchildren, Aron, Brycen, Sophie, Owen and Layla. He is also survived by his sister, Christine; and brothers, Ronald and Gary (Nancy); along with extended family and close friends.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to Jim's close friends and relatives for their care, love and support during this time.
