William Harry Sundquist, 76, of Anchorage, Alaska, passed away on May 11, 2025, surrounded by those who loved him most.
Born on Oct. 1, 1948, William—known to many as Bill—served proudly in the United States Army, rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant. After his service, he earned a Bachelor's degree in Education and spent the last 18 years of his career as a case manager at the Cordova Center halfway house. There, he guided countless individuals in rebuilding their lives, helping them find work, stability and a second chance.
He was a man of patience, humor and quiet strength. William found joy in fishing, pride in his garden and meaning in every moment spent with family. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather—and a fearless user of puns so terrible they somehow became endearing.
William is survived by his loving wife, Marcia; daughter, Elizabeth; son, Thomas; daughter-in-law, Kristen; and his grandson, Alex. His legacy lives on in their lives, in the people he helped and in every groan-worthy joke that still gets retold.
He will be buried at Fort Richardson National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the local SPCA or food banks—two causes that reflected William's enduring compassion for both animals and people.
He lived generously. He served honorably. He laughed loudly—and he loved deeply.
