Mrs. Stephenson was born on June 15, 1945, in Busan, South Korea. She first came to Alaska in 1964. She had been proud to serve the Korean community in Anchorage and Korean nationals visiting and working in the state. Between the mid-1970s to mid-1980s, she was called upon at all hours of the day by Providence Hospital's ER to translate for Korean patients who did not have family to represent themselves, including commercial fisherman, travelers and even mountain climbers. She often housed them in her home after release from the hospital until family arrived from Korea or transportation was arranged.
She was a loving and generous Christian woman who had the gift of hospitality. She was recognized in the community for her charity work. She helped start two Korean churches in Anchorage in the 1970s.
She is preceded in death by Richard "Steve" Stephenson and Archie Myrick. She is survived by her sons, Luke Stephenson and Dan Myrick; daughter, Claudia Wathen; and five grandchildren.
