Minerva "Minnie" Saenz Hernandez

Minnie Hernandez passed away peacefully on Jan. 7, 2025, in Anchorage, Alaska, of natural causes. Her parents were Primitivo M. Saenz and Maria Soliz Saenz. She had one sister, Gloria Saenz Casillas.

Minnie was born on Feb. 8, 1937, in Brownsville, Texas. She moved to Clifton, Ariz., where she met and married Manuel "Chito" Hernandez. She and her family moved from California to Bethel, Alaska, in February 1967.

While living in Eagle River, Alaska, she volunteered at the Ginger Bread House and was a member of St. Andrews Catholic Church, until she moved to Anchorage and became a member at Holy Cross Catholic Church, where she volunteered to give sacraments at Sunday service. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas.

She loved her family, friends and playing her cornet while she was in high school, and passed her love for music to her children. She is survived by her children, Patsy Hernandez, Lynda Buck, Anthony Hernandez and Laura Hernandez; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be held on June 6, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., with Mass at Holy Cross Parish, 2627 Lore Road in Anchorage.
