Tamara Hunter

Tamara Lynn Hunter (Crum), 59, of Anchorage, Alaska, passed away while on vacation with her family in Hawaii. Tammie was born in Wichita, Kan., to Dennis Crum and Katherine Ward. She moved to Alaska in 1970, after an adventurous road trip up the Alcan with her parents; uncle, John; and younger brother, Lonnie. Their 1955 Chevy Bellaire got them as far as Eagle River - so Eagle River is where they stayed. Tammie graduated from Chugiak High School in 1983, and received her bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Alaska Anchorage. For more than two decades, she pursued her passion for social work for the State of Alaska. Her dedication to helping the youth and elderly - and to overcoming any obstacle with perseverance, resilience and compassion - was witnessed by all who knew and loved her. Tammie married Nicholas Hunter, the love of her life, on Oct. 7, 2000. Becoming Nick's wife and Tab's bonus mom was her biggest joy in life. Together, they built a beautiful family and lived life to the fullest, welcoming Tammie's granddaughter River Hunter in January 2023. There are so many words that describe Tammie's beautiful soul. Like the turtles she loved to snorkel with, she was selfless, patient and full of wisdom. Throughout her life and career, she possessed a way of connecting with people. She gave all of herself and touched so many every day with her big heart and beautiful smile. Tammie was the glue that held her family together. She spent Friday evenings with her mother-in-law Teshia, Saturdays with her granddaughter River, and summers in Seward, fishing, camping and berry picking with her entire family. She was Mom 2.0 to her five siblings, and without a doubt the #1 Auntie to all her nieces and nephews. Tammie showered all of them with pride and love. She supported their education, showed up to all their events, and fiercely spoiled each of them. If you couldn't find Tammie, all you had to do was listen for her laugh. Tammie was preceded in death by her mother, Katherine Hawkins; and bonus father, Peter Harris. She is survived by her loving husband, Nicholas Hunter; son, Tab (Miranda, River) Hunter; brother, Lonnie (Heidi, Taylor) Wood; sister, Ginger (Jason, Jeffrey and Jordyn Forster and Delanie) Wind; sister, Brooke (Justin, Rex, Trent) Reich; brother, Christopher (Rachel) Beagle; brother, Shawn (Missy, Baylee) Beagle; bonus brother and sister, Allen and Debbie (Josh, Matthew, Tricia [Archie, Lexie, Peyton, Paige]) Serjeant, Alaina Lukin and Peter (Amy, Orion and Esme) Hunter; cherished bonus mother, Teshia Harris; uncle, Jim (Lesley, Shawn) Ward; uncle, John; as well as many other loved family members, friends and co-workers. Her service will be held at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Eagle River at 2 p.m., on March 13, 2025. A livestream will be available for those unable to attend in-person via www.facebook.com/StAndrewAlaska. A celebration of life will be held at the church following the service. The family encourages everyone to bring a dish to share if you would like. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you give a donation to Catholic Social Services or to St. Andrew's parish in her honor - Tammie, hunter. Thank you for your unconditional love, your sacrifices and your unwavering belief in us all. We are who we are because of you. We'll miss your physical presence every day, and we know your love surrounds us always. P.S. "Steer clear of the Blue Moose when you're driving in Heaven."
