Delores Luella "Grandma Dee" Casey

Delores Luella Casey passed away surrounded by her family on Monday, June 1, 2020.

She was born to Reverend James and Bernice Buggs on April 17, 1935, in Fort Wayne, Ind.

She married her former husband, Victor Casey Sr. on April 21, 1952. They had seven children and as a military family they were stationed at several locations from Japan to Anchorage, Alaska, where she eventually settled.

Delores worked for Carr-Gottstein Foods and was a member of the Alaska United Food & Commercial Workers Union. She attended the University of Alaska Anchorage and earned an Associate of Arts degree in music. She shared her love of music teaching hundreds of students to play the piano and organ at her home in Muldoon. Delores was known throughout Anchorage for her talents on keyboards.

She loved her family and was selfless in her devotion to them.

Delores is survived by her brother, Dred Scott; her children, Victor Casey Jr., Vincent Casey, Tanya Casey, Stephen Casey, Lesa (Casey) Andrews and Cherryl (Sherrie) Casey; grandchildren, Elkam Barlow, Karim Barlow, Atiya Lawhorne, Kamilah Barlow, Ayana Barlow, Akilah Sharif, Stephanie Casey, Victor Casey III, Jacqueline Casey, TaShanne Matthews, Lenise Casey, David Brown, Veronica Eli, Vanessa Wesling, Kyle Casey, La Kiese Wilson, Darius Wilson, Mercedes Weaver, Tierra Weaver, Nichole Casey, Stephen Casey Jr., Malachi Casey, Christopher Casey, Fallon Lynn, Blythe Andrews and Gregory Andrews Jr.; many great- and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Reverend James and Bernice Buggs; sister, Cynthia Randolph; beloved daughter, Teresa Barlow; and grandson, Vincent Casey II.

Viewing will be held on June 13, 2020, at 11 a.m., funeral service to follow at noon at New Hope Baptist Church, 333 Price Street, Anchorage, AK 99508. Flowers and cards may be sent to Janssen's Evergreen Memorial Chapel, 737 E Street, Anchorage, AK 99501.
