Mary Graves Zahn

Mary was born in Madison, Wis., to Dr. Earl F. Graves and Julia Goodwin Graves. She was four when Dr. Graves was appointed Territorial Veterinarian and they moved to the Matanuska Valley, Palmer, Alaska.

After graduating from the territorial schools, Mary returned to Madison, Wis., and the University of Wisconsin for undergraduate and graduate studies. She became a Sigma Kappa sorority girl. She is also a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Denali Chapter No. 16, Anchorage, Alaska.

In 1959, she married Charles Zahn of Milwaukee, a city planner. They lived in Mundelein, Ill., then in Appleton, Wis., then Indianapolis, Ind.

In Indianapolis, Mary was employed at the Children's Museum. In 1967, she and Charles moved to Concord, Calif., where Charles was employed at the Contra Costa County Planning Department. Mary became a Hausfrau and antique collector.

Charles died in 2017. Mary is survived by her sister, Victoria Graves Ault of Anchorage, Alaska. Burial is in Madison, Wisconsin. There will be no local services.
