Louis Eugene Mayer, 84, passed away on May 26, 2024. Born on Sept. 8, 1939, Louis was a resident of Alaska since August 1967. Louis met and married Lillian Mayer in Williamsport, Pa., and was a family physician from 1971-2016. He loved the outdoors, hunting and his books. He was dogged in his pursuit of knowledge, devoted to his patients, proud of his military service and Alaska state defense force. He delighted in having grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Louis searched relentlessly for spiritual truth; he was a joker, storyteller and a man of his word.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian Mayer; daughter, Joyce Mayer; sons, Louis Mayer, David Mayer, Stephen Mayer; son-in-law, Douglas Franklin; daughters-in-law, Joanna Mergler Mayer, Betsy Mayer, Tammy Mayer; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Mayer; mother, Martha Mayer; brothers, Earl Mayer, Walter Mayer; sister, Mary Whitenight; and granddaughter, Stella Franklin.
Celebration of life will take place at 2343 St. Elias Drive in Anchorage, Alaska, on June 15, 2024, from 1-5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, family requests donations to be made to the Parkinson's Foundation.
