Apr 16, 2024

David Lewis Rein passed away at his home on April 16, 2024, in Anchorage, Alaska. Born on Jan. 3, 1954, to Maryan and Frederick Rein in Bangkok, Thailand, Dave chose to spend the last half of his life in Anchorage, the city he had grown to love.

David graduated high school at Dwight Englewood School in New Jersey, and was a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy earning an engineering degree in 1977.

During his military career, he proudly served our nation completing U.S. tours at Sacramento, Calif.; Tacoma, Wash.; Dayton, Ohio; Warner Robins, Ga.; Fairbanks, Alaska; and overseas at Taif, Saudi Arabia.

Retiring at the rank of Major, David moved from Fairbanks to Anchorage in 1993, where he worked at several engineering firms and then for the Anchorage School District. Dave was the ASD project manager for the construction of the South Anchorage High School, an accomplishment for which he and his family are proud.

David had a passion for music and movies. He was an active member of the local Miata club. He enjoyed creating elaborate meals and loved hosting friends and family to weekend and holiday dinners.

David is preceded in death by his parents; and granddaughter, Lauren Rein. He is survived by his sister, Sari Bukowski of Tappan, N.J.; brother, Owen Rein of Mountainview, Ark.; sister, Laura Booth of Fayetteville, N.C.; son, Mark Rein of Williamsburg, Ky.; daughter, Virginia Rein of Wasilla, Alaska; and Catherine Southard of Moses Lake, Wash.; and many grandchildren, nieces and extended family who love him.

Friends wishing to donate in David Rein's honor are asked to do so with Anchorage Animal Care and Control, where he volunteered many hours.
