Born in Detroit, Mich., on May 22, 1937, to father Donald Ross and mother Dorothy (Welch) McKay, Brian was their second child along with his older sister Carol (Atkinson) and younger brother Bruce. In 1945, their family moved to the greater Los Angeles, Calif., area. Brian graduated from Glendale High School in 1956. He Married Beverly Ann (Felt) 1957, and they had three sons: Bruce, Bradley and Bret.

As a teenager Brian worked at Graumans Chinese Theater on Hollywood Boulevard. Then, after he married, he worked at the Aerospace Corp in their photography lab. Brian also worked at a few printing shops in both California and Alaska. In 1973, he and his family moved to Anchorage, Alaska, where they still continue to reside. At the age of 60, Brian and Beverly started their own business, Northern Sign Supply, which they successfully operated in Alaska for 20 years. Brian retired from business at the age of 80.

Brian coached and officiated youth, as well as high school, baseball and football. Brian and his wife were very involved with the University of Alaska Anchorage hockey program since it's inception in 1979. They, too, were very involved with Alaska's professional hockey team - "Go Aces!" Brian was the penalty box warden for the organization for several years. Brian was very proud of his fully restored 1957 Chevy Belair. Brian and Beverly's business hobby was B&B photo and Framing: pictures are currently on display at Chester Park cooperative in Anchorage. Brian and his wife were also adventurists, traveling often to Maui, Hawaii, and embarking on many ocean cruises.

Brian is survived by his sister, Carol and family; sister-in-law, Barbara Felt and family; three sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce (Julie), Bradley (Mary Jo) and Bret McKay; three grandchildren, Nick (Sandee), Andrew, Justin (Valery); five great-grandchildren, Chloe, Kody, Kennedy, Nina and Rowan.
