Leslie Elizabeth Delaney, 73, of Palmer, Alaska, passed away on Jan. 7, 2024. She was born on July 23, 1950, in Clayton, N.Y., to the late John J. Delaney and Ida L. Delaney. Leslie was gentle, kind and selfless. She was a smart and independent woman who will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Leslie will be remembered as a loving sister and aunt. She is survived by her brothers, Thomas Delaney, Donald Delaney and Francis Delaney; sisters, Catherine Hungerford and Marcia McGann; and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and -nephews.
Leslie received her education from Clayton Central School and went on to study at SUNY Albany, N.Y., and Loyola University, where she earned her master's degree in pastoral studies. She dedicated her career to Matanuska-Susitna Borough as a programmer for more than 20 years. She was highly skilled and dedicated to her work, leaving a lasting impact on her colleagues and the community.
Leslie loved to travel and visited many different countries. In her free time, Leslie enjoyed pursuing her passion for music. She was a member of the Anchorage Symphony Orchestra for more than 40 years and participated in the choir at Saint Michael's Church in Palmer. Leslie's talent and love for the flute extended beyond her own performances as she provided private flute lessons to students.
A funeral service to honor Leslie's life will be held at Saint Michael's Catholic Church in Palmer, on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2024, at 12 p.m. Her final resting place will be in Clayton, where a celebration of life and burial will take place in summer 2024. The funeral home in Clayton will be assisting with the arrangements.
Leslie's warm presence and contributions to her community will be deeply missed. She will be remembered for her kind heart and her love for music. Her memory will forever be cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing her.
