Carolyn Danette Gordon
Aug 14, 1953 -
Nov 24, 2023
Carolyn D. Gordon, age 70, died on Nov. 24, 2023, in Anchorage, Alaska. Beautiful, loving and a child of God, Carolyn was born on Aug. 14, 1953, in San Diego, Calif., to her loving parents Ilan Gordon and Frances Adams - may she RIP. Carolyn was the oldest of six children and attended Morse High School. From there, she joined the amazing choir, Indigo, and then the beautiful quartet, Coffee & Cream - Carolyn, Jann, Gerten and Jean, those lovely ladies! Carolyn made her move to Anchorage in 1989 and created family wherever she went. She worked at the UAA bookstore, where she met a wonderful group of people whom she loved and cared for dearly. Carolyn retired when the bookstore closed in 2020, but her friendship and love she had for her coworkers/adopted family remained. Carolyn joined First United Methodist Church in 2003, sang in the choir and served as Lay Leader for 14 years, faithfully leading the congregation in countless ways and sharing God's love abundantly during that time. She formed more adopted family at church, including Bob and Nancy Raymond, with whom she shared holiday meals and much of life. Carolyn also joined the renowned Alaska Chamber Singers, where she sang alto and once again shared love so freely. If you knew Carolyn, she probably considered you family. Besides the Lord and His people, Carolyn's next greatest love was snow! She would probably be dancing - and definitely singing! - knowing how much snow we have this year. Carolyn also loved the wildlife of Alaska, especially moose and geese. She loved plane spotting at Point Woronzof and going out to eat with Mom and her friends, aka extended family. She was a great seamstress and loved knitting, crocheting and painting in her spare time. Carolyn was a gift to this world; she gave big love, and she got loved big in return. She will be truly missed by family and friends all over. She is survived by her father, Ilan Gordon (Ruby); sisters, Lynn, Jolie, Shelby; brothers, Anthony, Joseph; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The Servant's Reward
One day, when you are in Heaven,
someone will come up to you and thank you
for the way you touched his or her life.
The person's words will take you completely by surprise.
Soon another person will seek you out,
and then another, and another.
As you listen to each one's story,
you will begin to discover all the ways that God used your life
when you were unaware of it.
You will find that it was most often not through the big things that you did,
but through the small and simple things –
a spoken word that was not planned,
a spontaneous act of kindness,
a loving attitude or a caring smile.
To your joy, you will discover that in all these ways and more,
God used you to deposit an eternal measure of his love
into many needy hearts.
