Kim Louise Terhune

Aug 30, 1955 -

Nov 30, 2023

Born in Michigan, Kim moved to Alaska before her first birthday, lived in Naknek for a few years, and penultimately in Anchorage before retiring to Lafayette, Ind., in August 2020. Most of her life in Anchorage was spent raising hell - and eventually her son - working hard and, later, finding Jesus. In retirement she loved gardening, keeping up with the latest weather reports, and visiting her best friend, Linda Corbin.

With her passing, she leaves behind her son and daughter-in-law, John Schultz and Sarah Preskitt; brother and sister-in-law, Douglas Terhune and Sally Archer; cousins, Glenn Gould, Ruth Galbreath, Barbara Gould and Jaime Henderson; and her friends and neighbors from Asher Street. She joins loved ones who passed before her, including Avis Gould Terhune, Arthur Schultz, Dennis Terhune, Kay Burrows and Robert Pipkin.

Mom was taken with Emma Milkeraitis' first-person narrative and sentiments regarding control over one's end of life choices as published in her obituary in the ADN on Nov. 10, 2012. The idea of living life without regrets, going out on one's own terms, and sharing one last message of values to live by. She thought Emma's obituary was so good that she wanted one just like it, unironically, written for her. "Work hard. Don't half-a** work things, always whole a** them. Play hard. Assuming you've worked hard, you've earned it! Be yourself. Appreciate your freedoms. Live life to the fullest. Music means dancing, regardless of venue or perceived appropriateness. Live and let live. Care for the environment. Avoid single-use plastics and eschew embalming fluids for green burials or aquamation (alkaline hydrolysis). It's never too late to stop smoking. When you don't have the money to give to good causes, find ways to give some time. Adopt a pet. Care for others. Give more than you take. Remember some of these values, even when you're done reading the obits."

A memorial gathering will take place in Anchorage in summer 2024. In lieu of flowers, please live life to the fullest. Memories and condolences of Kim may be shared online at www.fisherfuneralchapel.com.
