Dec 16, 2023
Captain Ken Rupp left the harbor on Dec. 16, 2023, after a ten-month fight with cancer. Ken was born on May 4, 1947, to Maurice and Henrietta Rupp in New Jersey. In 1969, Ken graduated from Villanova University in Pennsylvania with a degree in mechanical engineering. His adventurous spirit landed him in what he thought was a short stopover in Boulder, Colo., where he met his love, Linda. They were married in Greenwood, Ill., on Dec. 7, 1974.
The Bureau of Land Management enticed them to Alaska, and they spent their two-day honeymoon on the Alaska State Ferry. They lived in Eagle River, Alaska, for five years before the BLM wanted to move the family to Washington, D.C. They packed and sold everything. In the eleventh hour, ARCO offered Ken a job and they moved to Anchorage, Alaska. Ken joined ARCO in 1980, and later BP. He played an instrumental role in developing the miscible injection process and many additional engineering achievements in Prudhoe Bay. What was supposed to be a two-year stint, turned into a 49-year adventure in Alaska.
Ken and Linda had two sons, Travis and Keith. Ken had a lifelong passion for fishing and boating. The family spent 25 years exploring the beautiful waters of Prince William Sound. The next stop took them to Seward, Alaska, where Ken spent many days fishing and Linda gardening at their beautiful home. Ken and Linda were married for 49 years.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents; and son, Keith. He is survived by his wife, Linda; son, Travis; daughter-in-law, Amy; grandkids, Sebastian and Ava; brothers, Steve, John and Larry; sister, Maureen Robinson; and many nieces and nephews.
