Gilbert Lee Gabbert

Anchorage resident Gilbert Lee Gabbert, 94, passed away peacefully in his home on Nov. 15, 2023.

Gilbert was born on July 3, 1929 in Grass Valley, Calif. In 1946, he joined the Army where he served with the 31st Field Artillery Battalion in Korea as a Military Policeman. He achieved the rank of Private First Class before being honorably discharged in 1948.

Gilbert moved to Alaska with his family from Grass Valley, Calif. in 1970. In 1990, he retired from the Operating Engineers Local 302 and moved to his cabin on Alexander Creek. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gold mining and gardening.

Gilbert is preceded in death by his father, mother, brother, and sister. He is survived in death by his wife Jewel; his three children, Bruce, Brad, and Gabriele; four grandchildren, Genevieve, Amanda, Sarah, and Ben; and 4 great grandchildren.
