Kate Cotten was born on Aug. 14, 1948, to Sam and Kathryn Cotten in Juneau, Alaska. She passed away on Nov. 6, 2023, in Tucson, Ariz., from lung cancer. She is predeceased by her brother, Russell, and parents. Kate grew up in Palmer, Alaska, until her family moved to Eagle River, Alaska, in 1963. She attended East Anchorage School and later graduated from Chugiak High School in 1966.
Kate attended Southern Oregon College and Pima Community College where she received an associate degree. She worked many jobs from commercial fishing in Valdez, Alaska, to working on the trans-Alaska pipeline driving ice road trucks.
Kate spent the last 40 years in Tucson as a real estate broker owning Kate Cotten Real Estate. She enjoyed her job selling homes, meeting people and helping families find a comfortable place to live.
Kate lived a very adventurous life. She traveled extensively throughout Alaska, the Lower 48, Hawaii, Europe and Africa.
Kate had the biggest heart and beautiful smile. She was incredibly witty and fun, as well as fearless, strong willed and independent. Kate was a loyal friend and an incredible sister. She made everyone who came into her life feel welcome and important.
Kate leaves behind two brothers, Sam Cotten of Eagle River, and Lamar Cotten of Anchorage; sister, Eileen Jordan of Massachusetts; nephews, Matt Jordan, Sammy, Gus, Spencer and Nash Cotten; and one niece, Molly Jordan.
Kate will be missed by her family as well as the many friends and extended family members.
A celebration of life will be held in the spring in Tucson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the American Cancer Society.
