New Year's Day 1964 was extra special for Everett and Mary as they welcomed into the world their second son and fourth child, Everett Douglas Flynn.
Everett lived in Louisiana, Idaho, and Georgia, before the Air Force stationed his father at Elmendorf in 1970. He grew up in Anchorage, Alaska, attending Taku Elementary and Dimond-Mears. Following high school, he attended Wake Forrest University in Winston-Salem, N.C. Shortly after college, Everett served in the U.S. Army for several years before settling in Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minn. He worked at the University of Minnesota as an executive administrative assistant and IT specialist. Everett returned to Anchorage in 2018.
People often spoke of Everett's kind and gentle demeanor. He was charismatic, disarming and a deep thinker. Everett's pride and joy was his godson, Morgan. Everett was a father figure for Morgan, and they shared a special bond.
Everett passed from this life on Oct. 12, 2023, following a lengthy illness. He will be missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Mary Flynn; and is survived by his brother, Andre' of Portland, Ore.; sister, Eyvette Flynn of Anchorage; sister, Stephanie Taylor of Anchorage; godson, Morgan Harrison of Minneapolis-St. Paul; Clint McCool of Anchorage, his best friend of 50 years; and numerous extended family members and friends.
Everett's memorial service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2023, at 2 p.m., at First American Baptist Church, 1200 East 27th Avenue in Anchorage.
