Elaine Marie Gartin, 79, of Anchorage, Alaska, passed away on Sept. 22, 2023.

Elaine was born to parents Katherine and Martin Hogen on July 3, 1944, in Deadwood, S.D. Elaine graduated from Spearfish Junior-Senior High School in 1962. She had fond memories of her time spend in South Dakota.

Elaine moved to Alaska in the 1970s and worked as a secretary for many years. She met Robert Scott Gartin while working for the State of Alaska. They were married in 1999, and shared nearly 20 years of marriage before Scott passed away. Elaine loved Scott's children like they were her own and preferred not to use the word "step" when talking about their relation to her.

Elaine had many dogs during her life and they brought her so much joy. She loved their companionship, and her dogs were always pampered. Tuffy and Cassie will surely be happy to be reunited with her.

In 2018, Elaine was fortunate enough to reconnect with her son that she placed for adoption when she was very young. She was ecstatic when he tracked her down and she loved forming a bond with him during the final years of his and her lives.

Elaine will be remembered for her warm, quick laugh and her appreciation of a good joke. She had a charming silliness that made her very fun to be around.

Elaine was predeceased by her husband, Scott Gartin; and son, Scott Bowen. Elaine is survived by her loving children, Forrest Gartin, Gretchen Wood and Rosie Nethercott; and many grandchildren.
