Jun 14, 2023
Robert D. "Bob" Bray has fought the good fight, he has kept the faith, and on June 14, 2023, at home in Anchorage, Alaska, with his much loved family, he finished the race.
Bob was born on July 26, 1958, to Harold and Jannice Bray. He grew up in Missoula, Mont.; Spokane, Wash.; and Casper, Wyo., where he graduated from high school in 1976. He attended Casper College and the University of Wyoming where he earned a bachelor's degree in petroleum engineering.
Bob worked for Phillips Petroleum for 35 years, retiring in 2016. He worked in production, acquisitions and management. From 2017-2021, Bob was the Operations Manager for AES Energy Services.
While at Casper College, Bob met Sue Lindahl. They married in November 1981 and reared five children living in two countries, five states and 10 homes.
Bob was a member of Chapel By the Sea in Anchorage. He was also very involved in Kairos Prison Ministry. He supported several missionaries and often helped if a building project was at hand.
Bob enjoyed woodworking, fishing and most sports, whether watching or playing himself. Most of his free time was spent involved with his kids and their activities. He loved his children-in-law and enjoyed being a grandpa to his nine grandchildren.
In 2015, he fulfilled a lifelong dream of owning an ocean going boat, the "Abenteuer." As well as fishing, Bob treasured the time he spent with family working on and being on the boat in the great outdoors of Alaska.
Bob is survived by his wife, Sue, of 41 years; children, Brandy Payne (Jeremy), Robby (Kara), Danny (Callie), all of Anchorage, Kelly (Ashley) of Manhattan, Kan., and Ben (Maegan) of Edmond, Okla.; grandchildren, Jonathan, Peyton and Addison Payne, Levi, Josiah, Madelynn, Silas, Micah Bray and Asher Bray; sisters, Lisa Caudill and Tammy Creger; aunts, Lucille Gerberding and Jean Hilpipre; nieces; nephews; and cousins.
