Sep 4, 2023

Mary Dyson, born on Aug. 5, 1924, in Santa Monica, Calif., to Marie and Bill Reifenstahl, passed away peacefully in her sleep, at the age of 99, on Sept. 4, 2023. She was a graduate of Santa Monica High School, and the wife of the late LeRoy Dyson.

Mary is survived by her son, Jerry (Patti) Dyson; grandchildren, Matthew (Anya) Dyson and Morgan (Svet) Kolev; great-grandchildren, Zoe and Alex; and many nieces and nephews.

Mary was a longtime resident of Anchorage, Alaska, having moved there in 1959. While in Alaska she worked for years as the manager at Peggy's Airport Cafe, and later as the documents librarian at Alyeska Pipeline Service Company. She and her husband LeRoy loved their life in Alaska; they enjoyed alpine skiing, golf, camping and fishing. Mary also learned to fly and loved her Piper J3 Cub. She moved to Chicago in 2019, to live near her son, where she resided at Waterford Estates senior community. People said Mary was "stuck on happy" - the description fit.

She will be laid to rest along with her husband in Los Molinos, Calif.
