Joseph D. White

Sep 11, 1956 -

Sep 1, 2023

Joseph D. White died on Sept. 1, 2023, at home in Anchorage, Alaska. Joe was born on Sept. 11, 1956, in Tulsa, Okla. He grew up in Muskogee, Okla., just adding to his charm as the Okie from Muskogee, a moniker he proudly claimed. He graduated from Edmund High School and headed to Oklahoma State University where he graduated from with a degree in soils. One proud Poke, the first gift his children received were swag from his beloved OSU and local favorites.

Joe landed in Alaska where he had a 30-year career while doing what he loved: hunting and fishing. He lived and loved every minute of it and especially the down time and camaraderie. Joe could spin a tale and boy could he talk.

Fishing brought Joe and Marilee Fix together and they married on Aug. 4, 1990. They welcomed their son Jacob on Aug. 22, 1994; and daughter Meara on Dec. 9, 1994.

Joe was ever so gregarious; he leaves grieving friends from around the country in addition to his children and siblings, Carol Bishop and Mary Dorton of Grove, Okla., Dr. Theresa White Mullins (Charles) of Edmund, Okla., and his nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at Honey Creek State Park near Grove on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023, from 11 a.m., until the lights go out; and in Alaska at a date to be announced in summer 2024. Bring fish, music and stories.

The family request you write a remembrance and send to whitemarilee@gmail.com or meara.white@gmail.com so they can be combined, honoring his love of family and friends to be tossed out to sea in a bottle.
