George Craig Freas

George Craig Freas passed away on Aug. 30, 2023, at the age of 76, in Las Cruces, N.M., surrounded by his daughters and childhood friend, Tom.

Craig was born in New Jersey to George and Virginia Freas. Craig attended The Pennsylvania State University where he received a wrestling scholarship. At Penn State he obtained his degree as a civil engineer. After graduation, Craig enlisted in the Navy as a SEABEE and was stationed on Adak, Alaska. As a child Craig dreamed of living in Alaska and his time in the Navy solidified that dream. After leaving the Navy Craig moved to Kenai, Alaska, where he began his career as an engineer. His career took him all over the world, but he always returned to Alaska.

Craig continued to work in his profession up until the day he passed. When he wasn't working his loves included Penn State Wrestling, fly fishing, traveling, family and friends.

Craig was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Nancy Cliff. Craig is survived by his daughters, Miriam and Bess; grandchildren, Emma, Benjamin and Keenen; sisters, Georgeanne and Kyle; and son-in-law, Doug Morgan.
