Lawrence Joseph Weeks

Longtime resident Lawrence "Larry" Weeks passed away at his residence in Eagle River, Alaska, on Aug. 23, 2023, due to esophageal cancer. He moved to Alaska while in the Air Force in 1976. After an honorable discharge he joined the Department of Defense as a civilian firefighter. He served for 33 years and retired in 2011.

He leaves behind his wife, Mary Keenan-Weeks; their black and tan coonhound, Ella; his father, Kim Weeks; and brothers, Mark, Rick and Doug of Michigan.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Marilyn White of Michigan; and beloved hound, Daisy Mae.

Larry was an avid hunter, fisherman, gardener and ham radio operator. He loved serving in his church, cooking, baking and planting fruit trees and berry bushes.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, Sept. 17, 2023, at 2 p.m., at Community Covenant Church in Eagle River with a reception to follow at the Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to American Black and Tan Coonhound Rescue, The Children's Lunchbox or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
