Richard "Rick" Garza

Rick Garza, devoted partner to Kathryn, proud father to Lisa Mounts and April Garza, cherished grandfather and doting great-grandfather, passed away on Memorial Day, May 29, 2023, at Providence Hospital. Rick's departure, at the age of 71, was a profound loss to all who knew and loved him, as he leaves behind a legacy of love, and a life enriched by diverse passions.

Born and raised in L.A., his adventurous spirit led him to make Anchorage his home, where he raised his family. Rick led a life filled with many interests. He was an avid reader, constantly expanding his knowledge and imagination. His passion for coins led to a remarkable collection, a testament to his curiosity and appreciation for history. A movie enthusiast, he delighted in watching films, and found immense joy in scuba diving and fishing. A Vietnam veteran and retiree of Alyeska Pipeline, Rick contributed to his country and community.

Family was the center of his universe. As a father, he poured his heart into providing love, support and guidance to his daughters, instilling in them a sense of resilience and determination that has been carried through generations.

As a grandfather to Amanda, ThomasJohn, Jonathan, Michaella, Isabelle, Keira and Cooper, and great-grandfather to Danica, Evelynn, Rowynn, ThomasJohn and Kelvin, Rick's love and devotion knew no bounds. He was an ever-present source of wisdom and love, eagerly participating in their lives and creating cherished memories that will forever be treasured.

Preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and "Lupe" Garza. He is survived by his partner; family; and brother, Gilbert and his family. May he rest in eternal peace, knowing that he was deeply loved and his memory will forever be etched in our hearts.

Services will be held at St. Benedict's, 8110 Jewel Lake Rd., on Monday, Aug. 14, 2023, at 6 p.m., with a light reception to follow.
