Major G. Reagan Russey

Reagan Russey passed on June 29, 2023. He was 80 years. Born in Ft. Worth, Texas, the second of four sons to Clifford and Merle Rodgers Russey. Reagan received a B.S. in range management from Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas, and a M.S. from the University of Wyoming.
Commissioned in the Air Force in August 1968, serving until retirement in November 1991, he was stationed all over the world, primarily in the Pacific "driving" primarily C-130s. Reagan flew with distinction over Vietnam for 4 1/2 years, earning medals, the respect of his comrades and a profound disgust for the war and politics.
He lived in Alaska for 35 years, continuing to fly as a bush pilot in his Cessna 180. Hunting, fishing and enjoying all Alaska has to offer, including his own little cabin on the Kuskokwim River. He was a proud member of the Iditarod Air Force for 25 years and had many successful years as a real estate agent.
Reagan left Alaska in 2013, and spent several years traveling the Lower 48. In September 2016, he met Carol, who lives on a buffalo ranch, in Meeteetse, Wyo., where he spent the rest of his days.
Reagan loved animals and always had a pocketful of dog treats in indulge any dog he met, insuring he knew their name for when they met again. He was an amazing doting father and served as a supporting father figure to many. He enjoyed pulling up a chair to a poker table, enjoying a nice glass of Famous Grouse and having his dog by his side. He was a lifelong fan of the Dallas Cowboys and enjoyed watching NASCAR.
Reagan has left behind his wife, Carol May; daughter, Christie Russey and family of Anchorage, Alaska; brother, Terry Russey and family of Houston, Texas; Sam May and family of Antlers Ranch, Wyo.; Rowdy Dean and family of Evanston, Wyo.; and hundreds of friends, both human and furry.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, from 5–8 p.m., at AMVETS Post 2, 855 E 38th Avenue in Anchorage. Cremation performed by Ballard Funeral Home in Wyoming.
