Jun 14, 2023
Nelson Rodrigues Jr. Reece was born on March 3, 1971, and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ called upon him on June 14, 2023.
Reece grew up in Anchorage, Alaska, and went to Oceanview Elementary, Hanshew Middle School, Houston High School and graduated from Service High School in 1990.
Nelson's hobbies and interest included baseball, football, fishing and being around friends and family. In his youth, Nelson was best known for his golden glove in centerfield in which catching the ball seemed to motivate his left arm to throw directly to the glove at home plate each and every time for a perfect finish. The many pingpong and pool tournaments he could hustle up in the neighborhood or at some local watering hole always had a heightened sense of laughter when Nelson was playing. He was extremely competitive on and off the field and without any doubt always brought his best to the game. He was a ton of fun to hang out with with, as his sense of adventure and his dramatic style were always in character. Nelson was always good to go with a game of catch or playing long ball in the street with the football. He loved fishing and every summer looked forward to fishing reds on the Kenai at the family property in Soldotna. He was always good for an upper river float and midnight run anytime.
Through out high school and through adulthood Nelson was well on his way to mastering his macho suave look that was like everyday was a Saturday Night Fever dance off. He was fast and he ruled at his game!
After high school Nelson went to Embry Riddle Aeronautics School, where he got his degree in AP mechanics. He worked this tradecraft in Florida and Alaska for several years. He worked as a landscaper, a carpenter, a finish carpenter and was a master at his tile work.
Nelson is survived by his wife, Shawna, and her existing children; his daughter, Taylor Reece; mother and father, Donna and Mike Reece; and biological father, Nelson Rodrigues Sr. Nelson had many friends that supported him and encouraged him to always do his best as he would always bring out the best in us. I know Nelson truly misses each one of us, as I know each one of us has a unique individual story with Nelson and we shall truly miss him.
A potluck and celebration of life will be held at Mike and Donna Reece's residence, all day, at 7681 West Golden Drive, Wasilla, AK 99623, on July 12, 2023. For those that can attend, bring your favorite dish of food to honor and support Nelson in all the dramatic ways he liked his food and his drink. Another "beautiful" to ya Nelson. A prayer and a eulogy remembering Nelson will be at the residence at 6 p.m.
