Dec 23, 2022
James Ruban Procious, formerly of Anchorage, Alaska, died on Dec. 23, 2022, at the age of 51, at Harborview Hospital in Seattle, Wash. Jay, or "JP" as he was referred to by friends, died of septic shock which was ultimately the result of a motor vehicle accident.
James was born in Kincheloe Air Force Base, now Kinross, Mich., on May 29, 1971, to Robert Vernon and Heather Diane Procious (nee Watson). He moved to Anchorage when he was 9 years old and was a graduate of East Anchorage High School, class of 1989. Although he moved to Texas for work later in life, he always considered Alaska home.
When Jay was a boy, he discovered airplanes and thought they were the coolest thing ever. After working with his dad for years, he decided to go back to school. He eventually graduated from Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology and moved to Texas. As an aviation technician, he was able to work on the helicopters and airplanes he loved.
James is survived by his sister, Elizabeth Murphy of Seattle; brother-in-law, Curtis Murphy; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins in Canada and the U.S.
Having had no use for gloomy or melancholy events, James was adamant that there not be a funeral or official ceremony. To honor his wishes, there will be a gathering of friends and family in Alaska on June 17, 2023. If you would like to attend, please email jamesprociousmemorial@gmail.com.
Jay always wanted to return to Alaska and his ashes will be spread in the place he loved. Memorial donations may be sent to the American Diabetes Association.
