Aaron Patrick Johnson

Aaron Patrick Johnson passed away at home on March 3, 2023, in Anchorage, Alaska. He was 54 years old. Aaron died after an eight-year battle with cancer. He was surrounded by family and friends and his service dog, Chinlee.

Aaron was born in Colorado Springs, Colo. His military family settled in La Habra, Calif., where Aaron spent his childhood. He graduated from Sonora High School in 1986. He attended University of California Irvine for two years, then University of Washington.

After being accepted at University of California San Diego in 1991, Aaron completed a Bachelor of Arts in biochemistry and cell biology and a Bachelor of Science in chemistry. In 1996, he graduated from UCSD's Medical School. Aaron later became a Fellow in The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and Aaron was Board Certified in neurology with special qualification in child neurology, clinical neurophysiology and sleep medicine.

Aaron had a lifelong love for Alaska, and subscribed to Alaska Magazine since his early days in medical school. Aaron took his first trip to Alaska in 2002, a road trip from New York City to Anchorage. He soon moved north to work at Providence Hospital, then went into private practice in surgical neuromonitoring.

Aaron valued all the activities Alaska offers. He spent time with close friends and enjoyed karaoke. Aaron was a regular at many restaurants in Anchorage and Girdwood. He spent time during the pandemic taking courses and studying in Alaska.

He is survived by his mother, Erlinda Johnson; brother, Eric Johnson of La Habra; and many uncles, aunts and cousins. He is preceded in death by his father, Dewey Johnson.
