May 6, 2023

Jamie R. Powers, 45, passed on to the Lord on May 6, 2023, in Anchorage, Alaska.

She was born on April 6, 1978, to James and Pamela Powers (Recken) in Oklahoma. She graduated from Carnegie High School in 1987 and completed Certified Nurse Assistant training at Caddo Kiowa Vo-Tech School. She cared for residents in several nursing homes and in the Lawton Veterans Home. Jamie moved to Alaska in 2007.

Her family wrote: "Jamie loved the Lord. She never met a stranger. Everyone she met was just a friend she didn't know yet. She had few worries, and if she did, she would let them slide off her 'like water off a duck's back.' She was a great 'mama' to her son, Jonathan, who was the love of her life. She enjoyed helping him with his homework and they shared special moments together watching movies. Every Saturday morning, they had a date to play UNO or Skip Bo. She also enjoyed fishing from the family cabin on the Delta Clearwater River and was always up before everyone else with a fishing pole in her hand."

Jamie is survived by her son, Jonathan Powers; and mother, Pam Recken. She also leaves behind her aunt and uncle, Marsha and Ray Bailey; cousins, Sara Lindsoe and Carin Meyer and their families; cousin, Jennifer Teague; Nana Blanche Kallstrom; uncles, Todd and JD Palin; and aunt, Kristi Stanford and their families. She is also remembered by Roberta, Maria, Mike and Katie of the Recken family. Jamie is survived by many uncles, aunts and cousins from the Lower 48 states, all of whom she missed after moving to Alaska, especially her stepbrother, Shane, and her cousin Travis.

Jamie was preceded in death by her father, James Powers; grandfather, Papa Bob Kallstrom; stepfather, Joe Recken; grandparents, Joan and Dave Teague; aunt, Susan Nelson; and uncle, Gary Teague.

Jonathan remembers his mother as the most amazing person he has ever met. He knows that one day they will be together again, but until then she will always be in his heart.

A celebration of Jamie's life is planned for June 3, 2023. Please contact a family member for details.
