Annie Alvanna Ahgupuk

Annie Alvanna Ahgupuk, 73, passed away on May 4, 2023, in her own residence in Anchorage, Alaska.

Annie was born on Nov. 4, 1949, to Gideon Barr and Fanny Kigrook. She grew up in Shishmaref, Alaska, and later moved to Anchorage where she met Ralph Ahgupuk. They married on Dec. 11, 1967. Together they had two children together: son Al and daughter Lisa. Annie was a homebody while her husband worked at the Bureau of Land Management for the federal government as a cartographer technician. Later she would raise her granddaughter Tiffany Anderson and grandson Robin Ahgupuk. She enjoyed volunteering at her local American Legion Post 1 as an event photographer. Ralph and Annie were married for 42 years, until Ralph passed away in 2009. Annie missed her late husband very much. Annie was a social butterfly and enjoyed spending her time with her friends at American Legion Post 1 or eating traditional Inupiaq food with her sisters and visiting relatives. She also enjoyed sewing beautiful Kuspuqs, seal skin booties and beading, as well berry picking, dipnetting and camping with family.

Annie is survived by her son, Al Ahgupuk; daughter, Lisa LeBlanc; son-in-law, James LeBlanc; granddaughter, Tiffany Anderson; grandson, Henry Miner; grandson, Robin Ahgupuk; granddaughter, Jewel Huntsman; granddaughter, Anna Crider; great-grandchildren, Penelope Anderson, Leluminai Anderson, Zaryk Anderson, Kiley Kindred and Brian Kindred; and sisters, Mary Ann Boring, Elsie Weyanna and Arlene Shawn.

Annie is preceded in death by her loving husband, Ralph Ahgupuk; mother, Fanny Kigrook; father, Gideon Barr, a.k.a. Sonny; and brothers, Gideon Barr Jr. and Perry Barr.

Funeral services for Annie will be held on May 11, 2023, at Janssen's Evergreen Memorial Chapel. Annie will be cremated and family will hold on to her remains.
