John Barr

John "Jack" William Barr, 87, passed away on April 29, 2023, at Providence Hospital in Anchorage, Alaska.

Jack was born on Nov. 13, 1935, to William Barr and Grace Margaret Perks. He grew up in Vermillion, Alberta, Canada, on the family farm. Jack and Bernice Bauer were married in 1956. Jack worked for Weatherford Oil Tools in Alberta before transferring to Anchorage in 1967. Jack and Bernice drove their family up the Alcan in November 1967. He was with Weatherford for 19 years.

Jack started working for Sohio/BP in 1973. He met his second wife Audrey June Clark while working at Sohio/BP and they were married in 1979. Jack and Audrey retired from BP in 1990, spending many years traveling and wintered in Hawaii, Mexico, or Arizona. They built a home on the Kenai River, making Soldotna, Alaska, their home. Jack loved fishing right outside their front door. Audrey passed away on Feb. 13, 2020, in Washington, after a short illness.

Jack is survived by his three children, Murray Barr (Lizz), Terry Barr (Cindy) and Barry Barr (Theresa), all of Anchorage; three stepchildren, Wylie Chandler (Doug) of Soldotna, Alaska, Jim Edwards (Somatra) of Beaverton, Ore., and Leslie Abe of Vancouver, Wash.; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Jack's ashes will be distributed on top of the hill on the old family farm in Vermillion. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Baxter Senior Living, 4280 Baxter Road, Anchorage, AK 99504.
