Apr 11, 2023

Jeff departed unexpectedly on April 11, 2023. He lived 63 amazing years building, fixing, creating and dreaming of his next project. He was born in Caribou, Maine, on June 15, 1959, to Gary and Cecelia Sandstrom. Three months later, the family made the long journey, driving to Alaska. Jeff grew up in North Mountain View and attended East High School. His first job was at Anchorage Yamaha, where he learned to take things apart and make them better. He went on to build several homes, then worked as an IBEW Lineman apprentice. He excelled at everything he did. His father had started the construction company Sandstrom & Sons Inc. and, in the mid-80s, asked Jeff to come work with him. In the mid-90s, Jeff began managing Sandstrom & Sons. Over 40 years, Jeff built many bridges and a reputation of hard work, from Kotzebue to Sitka.

In 1990, Jeff he married Ruth Brodie. Jeff and Ruth were blessed with two boys: Daniel and Mac. Jeff was known to work hard and play hard, and he expected the same from those around him. In his free time, he built multiple remote cabins. He loved hunting, fishing, skiing, snowmobiling and aviating throughout Alaska. He enjoyed spending time with his family and cooking for everyone. Jeff was proud to have participated in the Iron Dog and loved watching his kids participate in their activities. He was looking forward to traveling with Ruth and his dog Jaxx in their RV exploring the U.S. and spending more time in his cabin at Trinity Lake.

Jeff is survived by his wife, Ruth; and sons, Daniel and Mac. He also leaves his mother, Cecelia; and two brothers, Bill of Washington and Curtis of Nevada. Jeff has numerous cousins he was close to in Alaska and several in the Lower 48, as well as aunt, Diane Sahler of Arizona. Jeff leaves many nieces, nephews, in-laws, co-workers and dear friends who will miss his immense character.

At 5 p.m., on June 22, 2023, his family wishes to invite all who knew him to his celebration of his life at the Fox Hollow Chalet.
