Charles "Chuck" Ernest Homan Sr. passed away peacefully at his home in Wasilla, Alaska, on April 11, 2023, at the age of 90. He was born on March 17, 1933, in Grandview, Wash., to William Ernest and Charlotte (Hammer) Homan. Chuck grew up on a farm in Grandview and attended Grandview public schools, graduating from Grandview High School in 1951. In his youth he was an Eagle Scout, played baseball, football and boxed, and played the tuba in the band. He attended Washington State College in Pullman, and transferred to Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Wash., where he met Constance "Connie" Newman. They were married in June 1955.

After his sophomore year at Central, he went into the U.S. Army and served in the Army Security Agency from 1954 to 1956, stationed at Fort Devens, Mass. After his separation from the army, he returned to Central Washington and graduated in 1958 with a degree in finance.

In 1959, he and Connie moved back to Grandview, where Chuck started his career in banking at the Old National Bank. In 1963, he was offered a job at National Bank of Alaska in Anchorage and moved his family north. He was a commercial real estate loan officer for over 30 years for several Anchorage banks including NBA, Matanuska Valley Bank - later Alaska Bank of Commerce and then First Interstate Bank of Alaska, completing his career at Home Savings Bank. For the next several years he worked with Homan Inc. a family-run home building, remodeling and repair company with his son Chuck II. He retired from Homan Inc. in 1998.

Chuck taught mortgage banking classes for several years in 1960s at the Anchorage Community College and was a member of Alaska Mortgage Bankers Association, Past President; Anchorage Jaycees, Past President; Anchorage Home Builders Association and Anchorage Budget Advisory Commission.

Chuck and Connie had six children: twin daughters Constance and Catherine, sons Chuck II, Craig and Chriss, and daughter Camie.

In 1992, Connie passed on after a long illness. In 1994, Chuck married Terry Ann Rogers.

Chuck enjoyed the Alaska outdoors and all it has to offer. Since arriving in Alaska many summer weekends were spent out camping, fishing, and boating. In the fall this would transition to moose and caribou hunting. Chuck grew up riding horses and often talked about riding his horse to school. He first purchased horses for the family in 1975. His daughter, Camie, shared his passion for horses and he became a horse show dad, cheering as boisterously as he did at a hockey game, and served on the Alaska State Horseshows Board. During retirement, besides having a horse, Chuck and Terry had chickens, a mule, goats, dogs and cats. In the summer he enjoyed growing vegetables in their garden.

Chuck's three sons played hockey, baseball and football, and Chuck was a coach for several of their teams. He became very involved with hockey and played a major role in the development of the UAA hockey program. He assisted in securing funding for the UAA Sports Center building in 1977 and with Coach Brush Christiansen began the UAA hockey program in 1979. He was the first president of the Blueliners Booster Club and wrote their by-laws for incorporation. While Vice-President of First Interstate Bank of Alaska, he was instrumental in the funding for the First Interstate Hockey Classic Tournament - later called the Kendall Classic - and was the Tournament Committee chairman for the first two years of the event. He actively supported the UAA Athletic Director, Ron Petro, in getting UAA Hockey admitted to the WCHA conference, attending many meetings with the AD to schools in the league to present their case for admittance. In 2003, Chuck was inducted into the UAA Athletic Hall of Fame in recognition of his years of service to the UAA hockey program. The ice rink at UAA is named after him, the Chuck Homan Ice Rink. More recently Chuck was involved with the Save Seawolf Hockey committee that got Seawolf hockey reinstated and was able to see the 'Wolves back on the ice this past season. He was Director Emeritus for the current Seawolf Hockey Alliance committee.
