Mar 22, 2023
Santa Patricia Capers, 89, of Anchorage, Alaska, passed away at Providence Alaska Medical Center, on March 22, 2023, surrounded by her loved ones.
Santa was born to Antonio and Rose DellaValle, in Brooklyn, N.Y., on March 22, 1934. In 1952, she graduated from Belleville High School.
In 1975, she established her Alaskan roots, moving to Anchorage. In 1976, she became a Civil Service File Clerk with the Department of Defense, rising to the position of Budget Analyst and retiring, in 1996, after 20 years of service.
In her spare time Mrs. Capers enjoyed knitting hats for elementary school children of the Anchorage School District as well as cancer patients with the American Cancer Society and Providence Hospital. Along with her knitting, Santa was an avid gardener, trout fisherwoman, baker and traveler. She was a "Snow Bird", going to Yuma, Ariz., every year.
Santa and her husband Billy were married for 63 loving years. She adored and doted over her two grandchildren.
"The world lost a loving wife, a kind mother and grandmother, and a loyal, caring friend. In addition to being a mother to her own children, she stepped in as a surrogate mom for many cousins and served as confidant and peacemaker to her extended family. Santa was never at a loss for words, but always there to pick us up when we fell, encouraged us to be the best we could be and has left behind countless people trying to make her proud. Her passing creates a void in the world that can never be filled. We will miss her terribly and promise to continue to make her proud of us."
Santa was preceded in death by her mother, Rose DellaValle; father, Antonio DellaValle; three brothers; and three sisters.
She is survived by husband, Billy Capers of Anchorage; sons, John (Nancy) Capers of Wildwood, Fla., and James (Karen) Capers of Honolulu, Hawaii; daughter, Susan (Jim) Brenner of Anchorage; grandson, Michael Brenner of Camp Pendleton, Calif.; and granddaughter, Stephanie (Devin) Collins of Anchorage.
Memorial donations can be made in Santa's name to the American Cancer Society.
A private ceremony for family will be held at Little Willow Creek.
Funeral arrangements and services were provided by the Anchorage Funeral Home & Crematory.
