Jan 16, 2023

Roberta Frye Hyde, known to friends as Bobbie, was born in Pawtucket, R.I., on Aug. 3, 1934. She attended Skidmore College and earned a degree in teaching and worked for a time as a teacher in South Williamsport, Pa. While her first marriage lasted only a short time, her second marriage, to Roger L. Hyde, gave them a lifelong partnership. They were married for 54 years.

They moved their family to Bozeman, Mont., in 1967, and then to Anchorage, Alaska, in 1975.

She worked at Romig Middle School, first as a secretary, then as a P.E. teacher and finally as a guidance counselor. She owned and operated Positive Alternatives, a business offering counseling and referrals to juveniles struggling with alcoholism and addiction.

An avid runner for many years, she was adventurous and loved skiing, fishing and especially berry picking. As first mate to Roger, she loved gunkholing around Prince William Sound in their boat, the Hyden Out. She also loved gardening, sewing and knitting.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger; and is survived by her children, Wally, Kathy, George Jeffrey and Jon; and grandchildren, Cayenne, Chris, Michael and Virginia.

A celebration of her life is being held on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2023, at 6-7:30 p.m. at the Kincaid Park Chalet, in the East room.
