LeRoy "Roy" Dennis

Jun 29, 1936 -

Nov 19, 2022

LeRoy "Roy" Dennis was a beloved great-grandfather, grandfather, father and husband during his incredible 86 years of life. He passed peacefully on Nov. 19, 2022, surrounded by family in the comfort of his home after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's. Military services, to be arranged by Cremation Society of Alaska, will be held at Fort Richardson National Cemetery in summer 2023.

Roy was born on June 29, 1936, to Emma Anderson and Leroy Dennis Sr. in Pendleton, Ore. He joined the Army at 17, and then served in the Air Force for 22 years. During this time he met the love of his life, Moira, and they spent 60 happy years together, and raised two accomplished and independent daughters: Anne and Moira. Following his military retirement, Roy worked as a Transportation Officer at the Alaska Native Medical Center, a position he loved where he made many lifelong friends.

Roy was a man of many talents which included fly tying, carpentry and many creative home projects. He enjoyed traveling and always had a camera in his hand. Together with his wife, he traveled much of the world. Some of their favorite trips were to Albuquerque, N.M.; San Diego, Calif.; Australia; and any town anywhere that had a Hard Rock Cafe. His family will remember Roy for his colorful Hawaiian shirts, "special recipe" margaritas, and his love of Mexican food from El Rodeo.

His passion for music has been passed down to every family member from 86 to 4. His vast collection of vinyls, cds and super eights are "museum worthy."

Roy loved fishing and spent countless weekends at the Russian River catching reds with his family, especially his son-in-law and fishing buddy, Jim Choi.

One of his cherished memories was watching his two grandsons Colyn and Shea play basketball. He enthusiastically "coached" and cheered for them at every single game.

Roy believed in giving back to the community and over his lifetime performed volunteer work through his church parishes, making hundreds of sandwiches for the Brother Francis Shelter and bringing turkeys and hams to the Rescue Mission each holiday season.

Roy is survived by his wife, Moira; children, Anne (Jim) Choi and Moira (Scott) Halbert; grandchildren, Moira Choi (Marcus Charles), Siobhan Choi (Dylan Yohn), Colyn Halbert and Shea Halbert; and his special buddy, great-grandson, Ryder Yohn.

His family would like to thank everyone who assisted in taking care of him in his final days and during his five year struggle with Alzheimer's - special thanks to Visiting Angels. He has left a huge void in his family's life. Poppa we love you and we will always miss you. Rest in Peace.
