Glenn Roy Elam, 68, of Anchorage, Alaska, passed away on Jan. 18, 2023, at Alaska Regional Hospital in Anchorage.
Glenn was born on June 22, 1954, in Wellingborough, County of Northampton, England, to Hubert Tolman and Lily Rose May (Sell) Elam. As a young child the family moved to Alaska, when Glenn's father was stationed here as a member of the U.S. Air Force. Glenn worked independently for many years doing carpentry and building maintenance. He also worked for Alaska USA FCU, FNBA and Johnson Controls. Glenn retired from the State of Alaska DOT as a member of Local 71.
Glenn enjoyed riding Harley motorcycles. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, gold prospecting and running traplines for over 30 years. He was also an accomplished dart player. Glenn, aka "Cheap Wheat," played many years on PJ's dart teams. He was a member of the dart team PJ's Bandits which won third place in a competition against 480 teams from across the globe at a tournament in Las Vegas, Nev., in 1991. He competed several years in the International Tournaments in Las Vegas, and won many individual awards as well. He was affectionately known as "Homer" for his resemblance to Homer Simpson and his sense of humor.
Glenn is survived by his daughter, grandson and great-grandson, all of Oregon; a niece of Oregon; a niece of Alaska; and a nephew of Tennessee.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother.
Glenn's ashes will be taken to his cabin in the spring, where he will be forever home with his favorite dog. Glenn loved Alaska and he will be missed by many. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Glenn's memory to the NRA or the American Cancer Society.
