Jay Carey, a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle and friend, went to heaven after a two-year battle with Ewing Sarcoma cancer. The lives he touched were endless. Jay was the oldest sibling of four, born in Fairbanks, Alaska, on March 10, 1968, to Margo and Dave Carey.
After the family moved to Anchorage, Alaska, his sister Sarah and twin brothers, Darin and Damon, were born. They moved to Tracy, Minn., but came back to Anchorage after seven years. He attended Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Ariz., with lifelong friends. Jay later returned to Anchorage to work for Carey Homes, then became the Area Director for Special Olympics Alaska for several years. He was also a commercial fisherman, the Owner of Ridgeline Construction LLC, was a basketball referee and an on call handyman to many.
Volunteering was an important part of Jay's life, which included Knights of Columbus, Special Olympics, Rotary and Catholic Engaged Encounter. He was also a football and softball coach, hunter and fisherman, and overall sports fanatic. His sports teams were endless, yet his passion was for the Minnesota Vikings. Jay established the Arctic Vikings Club in Anchorage, which now has over 150 members to all come together to watch the Vikings games.
Jay leaves his, wife, Maver; and two girls, Kasila (25) and Brystal (19), who he loved so much. He also leaves his sister, Sarah and husband Travis; three boys, Aiden (22), Caelin (19) and Declan (17); brother, Darin and husband Marty; and sister-in-law, Melissa and son Dac (21).
We are celebrating Jay's life at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 2111 Muldoon Road in Anchorage, at 1 p.m., on Saturday, Dec. 17, 2022. A reception at the church hall will immediately follow.
