Judy March

Oct 12, 2022
Judy Carol Wallace March, 79, of Anchorage, Alaska passed away on Oct. 12, 2022. She was surrounded by her two sons at the time of her passing.
Judy was born in 1943 in Knox City, Texas to Bill and Gladys Wallace. She was in 5th grade when the Wallace family moved to Anchorage, where Judy eventually attended West Anchorage High School and graduated in 1961.
On June 6, 1970, she married her high school sweetheart Tom March. A few months later the young couple hit the Alcan in Judy's prized blue Buick, heading to Minnesota where Tom was to attend graduate school. That trip lasted 5 years and was highlighted by the birth of their first son, James, in San Mateo, Calif. In the mid-1970s, Tom's job on the Valdez TAPS terminal brought the couple back to Alaska (the Buick, alas, did not make the return). A move to Anchorage and the birth of second son, Ryan, soon followed.
Judy worked for most of her adult life as a legal secretary, in Anchorage for private firms including Delaney Wiles and later in Fairbanks for the North Star Bureau.
With her family, Judy enjoyed many happy Alaskan summers camping, boating and winter snow-machining all over Southcentral Alaska and up to Fairbanks. No one could rock a down vest and campfire like Judy, but while she looked cute, she showed her loved ones no mercy at canasta and other card games. On weekends, the Marches' much-loved cabin on Nancy Lake was often full of friends and outdoor activity. As one friend said, "Judy was always up for anything...unless it was strenuous." If you ever shared a laugh with Judy, you are one of God's favorites. She was never, ever without a quick quip or dry turn of phrase, often aimed charmingly at herself.
In 2004, Judy retired from the legal profession and began her ceaseless vigil for grandchildren. Much to her relief, in 2012, the true love of her life, Logan March, was born to son, Ryan and dearly-loved daughter-in-law, Renee. It was a love affair that would see her through a brave battle with Parkinson's disease, and give her the strength to face treatments and surgeries with outstanding courage.
Judy was predeceased by parents, Bill and Gladys Wallace; and husband, Tom March. She is survived by son, James; son, Ryan (and daughter-in-law Renee); grandson, Logan; and sister, Chris Morriseau. She is also survived by the close group of girlfriends she was saddled with and tolerated for almost 60 years, including, Donna Millwood, Shari Cartee, Sue Easterly and Wanda Jack.
Judy will be greatly and forever missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for a charitable donation in Judy's name to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
