Robert Lindsley Arnold

Apr 25, 1958 -

May 2, 2022

It is with heavy hearts that the Arnold family announces the passing of our beloved father, husband, brother, grandfather and uncle, Robert Lindsley Arnold.

Robert "Bob" Arnold was born on April 25, 1958, in Casper, Wyo. His family moved to Boulder, Colo., when he was a toddler, then to Anchorage, Alaska, in September 1968.

One of Bob's favorite pastimes was to hike the mountains around his home after work and on the weekends. Bob shared many hair-raising stories of encounters with bears, moose, wolves and other wildlife while out hiking, and even around the mountainside home he shared with his wife and two children just outside of Anchorage.

Bob considered his work with the Boy Scouts of America to be the most important thing he did with his life, aside from being a husband and a father. He was the beloved troop master of East Anchorage's Troop 215 and took great joy in leading many boys in our city into adulthood. He often said, "You change the world one boy at a time." He was truly a second father to many youth in our community.

Bob is survived by his wife, Cynthia Kay (Lienhart) Arnold; son, David Benjamin Arnold; daughter, Emily Anne (Arnold) Helzer; Emily's husband, Thomas Eric Helzer and their son Samuel Robert Helzer. Bob is also survived by his mother, Lou-Ella Mary (Knudson) Arnold; sister, Helen Marguerite (Arnold) Bergland; brother, David "Dave" Oscar Arnold; as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Bob and Cindy were married on June 23, 1984, in Resurrection Bay, Alaska. The ceremony took place on a beautiful sailboat out in the middle of the Bay and launched an equally beautiful and memorable marriage between two people who truly loved and respected one another.

Our heartbreak is soothed knowing that we will once again walk with him someday, and we ask that whoever reads this take the time to reach out and help someone in need today as a way to honor the memory of a truly giant of a man, both in stature and in heart.

"Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father's house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am." John 14:1-3
